Vail Resorts has announced the planned opening dates for several of its resorts, including Keystone, Colorado; Breckenridge, Colorado; and Stevens Pass, Washington.

The complete list of announced resort opening dates is below. As always, the usual weather and conditions caveat applies. These dates could change depending on where and when the snow falls.

    • Mid-October (pending early season conditions): Keystone (CO)
    • November 8th: Breckenridge (CO)
    • November 15th: Vail Mountain (CO)
    • November 22nd: Whistler Blackcomb (British Columbia), Heavenly (CA), Northstar (CA), Park City Mountain (UT)
    • November 27th: Beaver Creek (CO), Crested Butte (CO)
    • December 6th: Kirkwood (CA), Stevens Pass (WA)

In a press release, Vail Resorts stated that more opening dates will be announced closer to the start of the ski season.

Other North American resorts outside the Vail Resorts bubble have also shared opening dates. Palisades Tahoe, California—owned by Vail Resorts competitor Alterra Mountain Company—announced earlier this summer that it plans to open on November 27th. Another Alterra Mountain Company holding, Mammoth Mountain, California, is targeting November 15th.

Earlier this year, news broke that the La Niña would likely take hold during the 2024-2025 ski season. As of August 8th, the Climate Prediction Center anticipates a 66% chance the La Niña emerges by September and a 74% chance it persists between November and January.

Long-range seasonal outlooks published by NOAA suggest the Pacific Northwest, among other locales across the northern tier of the U.S., has the best odds of seeing a wet and cold winter.

Whether or not these outlooks get it right—and impact ski resort opening dates—remains an open question that probably won’t have an answer until late fall, when many North American ski destinations plan to open.
