Hiawatha Senior Legion squad wins two but drops NEKL championship game
The Post 66 Braves are nearing the regular season, and the team continues to pile up wins, as Hiawatha swept Sabetha on Thursday, but suffered a blow, falling to Corning in a single game on Sunday, as the two squads vied for the Northeast Kansas League title. The Braves fought valiantly, but ultimately Corning had more offense in their bag that day, as they overpowered Hiawatha to capture the league crown.
Junior Braves capture Zone Tourney title in shootout
After getting rained out in the second contest of the Junior Legion Zone Tournament on their home field on Tuesday night, the Hiawatha Post 66 Braves showed up the following night to find a much different opponent than the Seneca team that they defeated 33-0 the previous evening. The Topeka Post 400 Marlins posed a serious threat to Hiawatha’s undefeated season, and the squads battled like a pair of prize fighters, but it was the hosting team that would come out ahead after a back and forth contest that required everything they had in the tank.
