Carson Frost showed off his arm.

His perfect throw home from right field on Thursday, June 13, accounted for the final out in a 6-5 Poynette Home Talent at Cross Plains.

Will Eckstein made his pitching debut for the Indians.

“Will did a nice job for his first Home Talent start, but we’ll need to minimize the free passes,” said Davy Tomlinson, manager for Poynette. “That certainly was an exciting finish. Guys are making big plays in big situations.”

Poynette plated three runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth, before holding on for the win. Eckstein went seven innings, allowed four earned runs, six hits and five walks, while striking out six. Going 3-for-4, Ian Nowell led Poynette at the plate, while Chase Hansen went 2-for-4. Joel Thimsen’s two-run homer in the fifth was the big blow for the Indians.

In the seventh, Cross Plains got a pair of RBI singles to pull to within a run. Runners were on second and third with one out. Frost’s throw ended the rally and the game.

Poynette had eight different players record putouts, with six different guys getting hits and runs scored. There were two outfield double plays in back-to-back innings.

It was the first Night League win for Poynette.

    Monona 6, Poynette 0

Braves pitching held Poynette in check, as the Indians didn’t get a runner past first base until the eighth inning and went three up, three down in four of nine innings.

Poynette had two runners on base in both the eighth and ninth innings but couldn’t get a run home.

“Their pitchers did an excellent job today, and pretty much shut us down,” said Tomlinson.

Riley Radewan took the loss for Poynette, going six innings. Andy Knuteson tossed two innings.

Five different Poynette hitters had singles.

Poynette records: League 1-3, Night League 1-2, Exhibition 2-1, Overall 4-6

Upcoming games: Wednesday home against DeForest (make-up from May 26 League game) at 7 p.m. Thursday home against Monona (Night League) at 7 p.m. No game this weekend.
