PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. (WKBT) -- Crawford County's DA will now serve as a circuit court judge.

Gov. Tony Evers appointed Lukas Steiner to the Crawford County Circuit Court Friday. Steiner will fill the vacant seat left by former Judge Lynn Rider's retirement.

Steiner has been the Crawford County DA since January of 2020 and has a background in criminal defense and family law. He graduated from UW-Oshkosh and Marquette University Law School and lives in Prairie du Chien.

Steiner will serve the remainder of the term, which ends on July 31, 2025.

The Governor is now seeking applicants to fill Steiner's former role of Crawford County DA. The new DA would serve until January.
