His regional results had the opposite outcome, with his slightly faster time in 2023 dropping him one place to fourth. Three-star small forward Dorian Hayes recaps Wichita State visit, sets dates for three other officials
By SAM LANCE Class of 2025 three-star Dorian Hayes is fresh off a visit to Wichita State from Aug. 23-25, and he has three other visits set in stone. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound small forward from Ridge Point (TX) and the Houston Hoops Nike EYBL AAU program, has also locked in officials to Murray State (Sept. 14), UTSA (Sept. 20) and UTEP (Nov. 2). He broke down all of those schools to ZAGSBLOG, plus UC Riverside, another schools Hayes has been hearing from: Wichita State visit: “At Wichita state I liked how the whole staff was invested on getting to know me on the visit. They treated me like I was already on the team and told me how they can help develop me as a player and help me reach my goals.” Murray State: “I’ve had a chance to speak to the whole staff before. I really just like the way they space the floor, get corner threes and stuff like that. Overall, they play fast. And I think that can help my game out.” Hearing from head coach Steve Prohm, assistant coach Antwon Jackson. UTSA: “I’ve spoken to coach [Joey] Brooks the most. They’re kind of similar to Murray State in the fact that they like to hunt for threes, really space the floor.” UTEP: “I’ve spoken to coach [Joe] Golding and coach [Earl] Boykins. They’re just letting me know they like the fact that I can be efficient, make shots. They think I can be a big asset to their program with that.” UC Riverside: “They would like to have the ball in my hands. They are looking for more of a taller guard. I’ve spoken to coach [Eddie] Hill the most.” When taking visits and looking at schools, Hayes wants to see a good culture. “Kind of like a good fan base that will support me,” Hayes said. “And then just overall lifestyle. Outside of basketball you have to be able to have a good lifestyle as well.” Hayes is ranked the No. 36 overall small forward in the 2025 class by 247Sports, giving him three-star status. At Peach Jam, Hayes averaged 6.4 points and 2.0 rebounds per game playing in 17.8 minutes per contest. He also shot 6-of-20 from 3-point range. “I like to get my shot off in two-to-three dribbles,” Hayes said of his game. “I like to shoot the three ball and play in transition. I feel like my shot making ability [makes me unique]. I’m pretty consistent. And then just my IQ. I feel like overall I’m a really good team player.” Dorian is the son of former Kentucky basketball standout and 10-year NBA veteran Chuck Hayes. Chuck is currently the Golden State Warriors Director of Basketball Operations. Dorian also has twin little brothers. Melissa Etheridge on being a 'proud mother' to queer artists and the healing power of music
In 1988 rocker Melissa Etheridge demanded, “Somebody bring me some water!” That Grammy-nominated song fueled a fire in her and her fans. “Can’t you see I’m burning alive?” she pleaded in song to a lover who’d spurned her with another. Now, 36 years later, she’s invoked another conflagration in song. This time she belts about the kind of inner spark that ignites change in the anthem “Burning Woman,” written for and performed live for the first time at a concert for the women of the Topeka Correctional Facility on the grounds of the institution in Etheridge’s home state of Kansas. Like Johnny Cash's famous performance for those incarcerated at Leavenworth, a show the Grammy-winner was aware of as a girl growing up nearby, Etheridge delivers the women at the facility an escape from their day-to-day and a sense of community and healing through music. That concert now exists for posterity in a live album and the two-part docuseries Melissa Etheridge: I’m Not BrokenI’m Not Broken on Paramount+.
