Church announces groundbreaking date for first temple in Kansas
SALT LAKE CITY — A groundbreaking ceremony for the Wichita Kansas Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be held later this year. The First Presidency has announced the ceremony will be held on Sept. 7., according to a news release. Elder Steven R. Bangerter, first counselor in the North America Central Area Presidency, will preside at the event. The temple was first announced in April 2022 by President Russell M. Nelson.

Missouri woman arrested in Hays for DUI after crashing into vehicle
Hays Police officers reported witnessing an allegedly intoxicated driver traveling in the wrong direction before colliding with a parked vehicle. At about 10:23 p.m., officers observed a black sedan traveling southbound in the opposite direction on a one-way street at the 800 block of Ash St., according to Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler.

New fencing, sidewalks around lion exhibit at Great Bend zoo
In 2017, a pair of female lions were brought to the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo to be companions for Luke, the male lion. For years, zookeepers tried to peacefully introduce the lions to each other to share the exhibit. In 2021, an aggressive interaction led the zoo staff to keep them separated and take turns on which animals were out in the yard.
