Rib Lake season ends at regional final

The Rib Lake High School varsity boys basketball season ended earlier than expected at the Region 5 Interscholastic Athletic Association Tournament.

The No. 1 seed Rib Lake lost in a surprising 45-43 upset to No. 4 seed Owen-Withee in the Region 5 regional final on March 2 at home. Owen-Withee will go on to face No. 3 seed Winter in the sectional in Medford after their stunning 59-46 upset of No. 2 Drummond.

The loss ends a stellar season for the Redmen with a 21-6 overall record and first place in the Marawood-North Conference at 12-4.

The No. 1 seed Rib Lake defeated Butternut 79-24 in the regional opener on Feb. 27. The team defeated Thorp 61-51 in the semifinal on March 1.
