Independence Day on the square, Simpson County celebrates the holiday
FRANKLIN, Ky. – It fell off for a few years but now is back on its fifth successful run, the Franklin-Simpson Independence Day Parade. It was hot out but a big crowd came out to celebrate the Fourth of July, watching dozens of cars, trucks and tractors drive through town to the square. A significant part of the event was the spotlight shone on local veterans, the parade’s committee inviting all retired and active duty veterans to lead the parade as grand marshals.

Just yesterday, we were driving back from Florida and decided to treat ourselves with a stop at McDonald's (a rare indulgence at our house). They had this deal—$5 for a meal with a double-patty burger, fries, four chicken nuggets, and a drink. My 11-year-old finished her entire meal. As for me, I only managed to eat half of my burger and a few fries. But wouldn't you know it, about 30 minutes later, she polished off the rest of my meal.
