    Tigers finish seventh at Mississippi 8 championships

    Five athletes and one relay team received all-conference awards

    The Princeton track and field teams survived a thunderstorm and strong winds to finish seventh out of nine teams at the 2024 Mississippi 8 championships on Wednesday, May 22, at Zimmerman High School. The Tigers boys team finished seventh with 45 points, while the girls team finished seventh with 29 points.

    “The Tigers performed well in this highly-competitive conference and across the board, we were pleased with our performances,” Princeton head coach Tom Ostroot said.

    Two male athletes broke program records at last Wednesday’s meet. Senior Devon Bragg set the program record for the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 15.20 seconds. Bragg finished second behind Becker junior Owen Angell. Senior Cadyn Miller reset the record for the pole vault, as he jumped 14 feet, six inches. This broke his previous record of 14 feet. Miller finished second behind Angell.

    The Princeton boys team had no event winners. Second-place finishers besides Bragg and Miller include the 4x100-meter relay team of Brody Kok, Cole Olson, Carter Ronning and Blain Sternquist finished second in 44.26 seconds.

    The Princeton girls had one event winner. Sophomore Kyleigh Noble finished first in the high jump. Junior Lillian Koenig finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.09 seconds.

    Five Tigers athletes and one relay team received Mississippi 8 all-conference awards. Winners were Bragg (110-meter hurdles), Miller (pole vault), Kok (200-meter dash), Koenig (100-meter hurdles) and Noble (high jump).

    What’s next

    The Tigers will compete in the Section 5-2A finals on Thursday, May 30, at 4 p.m. at Monticello High School.
