FDA approval of latest Alzheimer's drug gives MN families hope
MINNEAPOLIS — An announcement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) this week is creating its own form of fireworks for families affected by Alzheimer’s disease. On Tuesday, the FDA announced its long-awaited approval of the Eli Lilly drug, donanemab. Trials have shown the drug – which will be sold under the brand name Kisunla – slowed the progression of Alzheimer’s disease by 35% by attacking what’s considered a hallmark of the disease: protein in the brain called amyloid plaque.
Pedestrian killed in late night Nashwauk crash
One person is dead after a fatal accident on Highway 169 in Nashwauk, after they were struck by a car. The accident happened late Wednesday night around 11:19pm. Authorities say a 2005 GMC Yukon was southbound on US Hwy 169 in Nashwauk when it struck the pedestrian walking in the traffic lane.
MPCA fines Cleveland-Cliffs $16750 for wetland pollution at Virginia mine
VIRGINIA — The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency fined Cleveland-Cliffs $16,750 for polluting a nearby wetland at its Minorca Mine in Virginia last spring. In a Wednesday, July 3, news release, the MPCA reported the mine leaked wastewater, construction runoff and tailings materials across nearly a half-acre, including the wetland. The Minorca Mine is a complex of large, operating, open-pit iron mines and a facility producing pellets from taconite.
