As Hibbing High School celebrates 100 years since it was dedicated, it seems like a good time to look back at some of the interesting stories in its history. This will continue on next weekend’s Years of Yore page. The stories that follow come from a variety of sources. Enjoy reading about the “Castle in the Wilderness” while you raise a toast the school, its builders, the many teachers and staff through the years, and the thousands of graduates. Maybe you are even enjoying a...
Range opera now an annual event
Gavriel Heine—Gavi to friends and family—has always loved music. Understandable, since his mother is Aurora native Veda Zuponcic, a classical pianist. And Heine does play the piano, a bit. There were lessons when he was very young, and then he moved on to the violin. But the teacher made him stand when he played, even in practice. “And I didn’t like standing up,” he said. So he moved on to...

Ascendance supreme again in Big M’s Kindergarten
East Rutherford, NJ — The term “ascendance” is synonymous with dominance. It just so happens that trainer Linda Toscano has a horse by the same name who lived up to that synonym Friday night (July 5) at the Meadowlands in leg two of the Kindergarten Series. An...

North Shore Lumber Opens with Competitive Prices and Quality Commitment
My husband and I are embarking on the next phase of the construction on our property. This means spending a lot of money on supplies and also spending a lot of money on gas to go back and forth to Duluth. That’s a 2-hour ride in the truck and, sometimes, it’s for something small that has halted the big project. It’s frustrating to take a huge chunk out of the day to retrieve the supplies you need to keep moving forward.

Election forecasters say Minnesota is set to be more competitive this presidential election
MINNEAPOLIS — Following President Joe Biden's poor debate performance last week, a key election forecaster shifted Minnesota from "likely Democratic" in this presidential race to "lean Democratic," signaling the state is more competitive than it was four years ago when Biden won easily. University of Virginia's "Sabato's Crystal Ball" at its Center for Politics changed its rating for Minnesota in wake of that debate. Analysts also downgraded Michigan from "leans Democratic" to a "toss-up.""President Biden's debate performance was so bad that it has forced us to reassess some of our assumptions about the race," wrote Kyle Kondik, in the post about the change. Biden in...
Rain, rain and more rain…when will it end?

While it has been great to see more rain, it has gotten quite excessive for many, leading to frequent flooding concerns.
