Know these men? They’re accused of placing card skimmers at Connecticut stores

NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTNH) — Police from across Connecticut are asking for the public’s help to find men accused of placing card skimmers at stores — potentially stealing customers’ financial information.

LaBonne’s Markets is looking for whoever placed skimmers at its Prospect store, with the business offering a $500 cash reward leading to an arrest. Skimmers can look nearly identical to real card terminals, but steal a customer’s financial data so that criminals can clone a victim’s cards.

Two men wearing Hugo Boss clothing bought items at 1 p.m. on June 29, and then placed a skimmer on a register while the cashier was making change, according to a post from the company. The skimmer was found the next day.

During that time, there were 125 card transactions. Of those, 67 customers have been contacted. No customers have reported that their financial information was compromised. The skimmer appears to be one that requires for the suspects to come back in order to get the data, according to the company.

LaBonne’s Markets placed pictures of the suspects on its Facebook page. The company wrote that the skimmers were placed on the same day that other types were placed at Big Y locations in Naugatuck and Plainville.

“Maybe the 2 incidents are connected…let’s use the power of social media to find the suspects,” LaBonne’s Markets wrote.

Police have not released suspect information connected to the Big Y skimmers.

LaBonne’s Markets has added security tape to credit card terminals so that the business can see if one has been tampered with.

“Some say we shouldn’t share this information publicly because it draws negative attention to us and may ‘scare’ people away from shopping at our store,” the business wrote. “I say no, we are a company that goes after criminals to the fullest extent of the law and does not let them hide in the dark.”

In Naugatuck, police are searching for a man who placed a skimmer at a self checkout register at Walmart. The skimmer was placed at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Naugatuck police released the pictured poster in an attempt to locate a man who placed a credit card skimmer at Walmart.

A picture of the suspect shows a man wearing shorts, glasses, white shoes, a white shirt and a baseball cap.
