Grassroots campaign begins on an Illinois utility’s gas pipe replacement program
(The Center Square) – A coalition of consumer and environmental organizations have announced a grassroots campaign to raise awareness of the Illinois Commerce Commission investigation into an Illinois Utility’s pipe replacement program. The hike was fueled mainly by the company's Safety Modernization Program to replace nearly 2,000 miles of old, deteriorating natural gas pipes. ...
Here in Evanston: The lay of the land
Lake-blocked to the east and essentially landlocked in the other directions, compact Evanston can’t get any bigger. In fact, it seems to have shrunk. City of Evanston staff had been working quietly for several months to come up with the correct figure.

Midwest tough: Wilmette sailor Maggie Shea explains Lake Michigan edge ahead of Olympics
Maggie Shea is one of those tough Midwestern sailors. Shea grew up playing with her cousins by tipping over boats and swimming underneath. She drove to regattas packed in her parents' green Suburban with a boat tied to the top. And she laughs every time someone comes to Chicago and stares in awe at the sight of Lake Michigan, thinking it looks like an ocean.

Wanting wide-open space, residents oppose proposed 315 housing units in rural area
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – Chestnut Development is proposing another 315 new housing units in Northfield Township – and residents are pushing back. People raised concerns around the impact on wildlife and forest preservation, the density of the housing and the detraction from the rural character of the area. There were also concerns that more people moving to the development would require more emergency services and, therefore, increase costs to existing residents.

Will County Rejects Non-Sanctuary Status Amid Immigration Policy Debates, Chicago Allocates $70M for Migrant Support
In a firm stand for the values of inclusivity and diversity, the Will County Board voted against a resolution that would have declared the county a non-sanctuary area. With a predominantly party-line vote where 11 Democrats stood against and eight Republicans in favor, the decision highlighted the ideological divide apparent within the county's political landscape, according to the Chicago Tribune. During the contentious debate, community members voiced their opposition to the resolution, emphasizing that such demarcations are perceived as anti-immigrant and contrary to the county’s ethos of welcome.
