Don’t Fall Victim to the Latest USPS Text Scam Circulating Illinois
We should all know better by now, but I nearly fell victim to a new package delivery text scam the other day, and I don't want the same thing to happen to you. Here's one thing I can guarantee about me; if you call or text me from a number I don't recognize, I will not answer or respond...ever. My notorious call screening usually saves me from phone scammers, BUT, when I have been waiting for over two weeks for Japanese Beetle traps I desperately need to arrive, receiving a text about a delivery issue almost had me falling hook, line, and sinker into the scammer's trap.
IDNR Shuts Down Recreational Boating On Fox River
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has temporarily shut down recreational boating on the Fox River, according to a letter posted by the IDNR today. High water levels, swift currents, floating debris and submerged structures in the Fox all contributed to the decision, which was recommended by Cpt Joshua Mooi of the IDNR and approved by Director Natalie Phelps-Finnie.

Volunteer Corrie Fisher shows a replica of a black-and-white warbler that she created out of fabric at an art workshop near the Main Street Metra Station. An exhibit called Bird Collisions in the Anthropocene (our current geological age) is enlisting residents to craft likenesses of more than 10,000 birds to call attention to the danger of windows. The group promotes ways to make buildings safer for birds. Fisher worked at the Main-Dempster Block Party. Neighbors continue to look for missing 82-year-old Skokie woman
SKOKIE, Ill. (CBS) – A north suburban community was still trying to locate an 82-year-old woman who went missing in Skokie on Monday.Tsering Wangyal was on her way to a prayer meeting, and she had no mental or physical limitations that might have explained her absence. She was last seen around 3:30 p.m. on Monday in the area of the 9500 block of Bronx Place, according to police.She is a 5-foot-1, 160-pound Asian American woman with silver hair and brown eyes. Bloomingdale and Hoffman Estates Men Charged with Hate Crime for Defacing Israeli Flag at Local Grocery Store
Two men are facing charges after an incident at a Bloomingdale grocery store where an Israeli flag was defaced. Tabshir Rizvi, 23, of Bloomingdale, and Mohammed Faroun, 22, of Hoffman Estates, allegedly spray-painted "FREE GAZA" on the flag at Woodman's Food Market late last month, an act the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office is treating as a hate crime.
Four Northwestern University Educators Charged Months After Pro-Palestinian Encampment Protest
Northwestern University Police have arrested and charged these individuals for allegedly obstructing law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor that looms with the weight of a year in prison and a $2,500 fine though the encampment itself was a scene settled months ago, dismantled through a mutual understanding between the university's leaders and the protesters. Omenai Gallery is opening its first physical space, in West Town, presenting “In-Between Ashes,” a selection of works by Ghanaian artist Kwaku Owusu Achim, opening tonight, July 19, through August 23. This is the artist’s first solo show and debut solo showcase in the United States. Founded by Gbenro Adeyemo, Omenai Gallery inaugurates its hybrid, digital-physical model at 1716 West Grand, three years after the OMENAI brand, “a natively social media and digital editorial platform, was created.
