Two men arrested after armed Pizza Hut robbery in Danville
DANVILLE, Va. – Two men have been arrested following a robbery that occurred at a Pizza Hut on Riverside Drive in Danville last Wednesday. Danville Police Department said the men were identified as 19-year-old Jayvian Davis and 21-year-old Phayzaun Edmonds. Davis was found in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and was arrested on charges of carjacking, armed robbery, and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was given a $1 million bond. Edmonds was arrested by DPD for conspiracy to commit carjacking. He is being held under no bond.

ELF: Vienna Vikings sign Elon University DB Cole J. Coleman
The Vienna Vikings of the European League of Football have announced the signing of Elon University (NCAA Div. 1, FCS) defensive back Cole J. Coleman. The 24-year-old Coleman, a native of Raleigh, North Carolina and son of former North Carolina State and Tennessee Titans receiver Chris Coleman, spent five years (2018-2022) playing for the Elon University Phoenix . In his 42 games, he recorded 281 tackles including nine tackles for loss as well as three interceptions. He was named first team All Coastal Athletic Association conference in 2021 and earned multiple Defensive Player of the Week selections that same season.

The International Civil Rights Center and Museum in downtown Greensboro got a special guest on Thursday, July 25. Nationally known civil rights advocate Al Sharpton – a good friend of the museum’s co-founder Skip Alston, who’s also the chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners – was in Greensboro for an event at the Koury Convention Center, and, when Sharpton said he wanted to check out the museum, Alston was all ears and very accommodating.

Men’s Tennis Takes Home ITA All-Academic Team Honors
ELON, N.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced that the Elon University men's tennis team earned All-Academic Team Honors while eight student-athletes earned Scholar-Athlete honors. In 2024, 1,059 Division I Men's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 176 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
Second new private school to open in Burlington next month
Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Burlington is launching a new private Christian school that will open for students in kindergarten through third grade on August 26. ICRCM Sit-in Movement Gala honors civil rights champions
It was a night of dining, dancing, and celebrating freedom as the International Civil Rights Center and Museum (ICRCM) commemorated the 64th anniversary of the lunch counter sit-ins with its annual gala held Saturday, July 20, at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro. This event recalls the courage and commitment of four A&T freshmen, David Richmond, Franklin McCain, Jibreel Khazan (Ezell Blair Jr.), and Joseph McNeil, who bravely challenged the status quo of segregation by sitting down at the lunch counter of the FW Woolworth five-and-dime in downtown Greensboro on February 1, 1960. Museum co-founder Skip Alston said, “When those four young men sat down, the rest of America stood up for freedom, justice and equality. That started the modern-day Civil Rights Movement right here in Greensboro, North Carolina.”
Greensboro plans for first medical respite center for veterans and unhoused residents
A medical respite center for veterans and people without housing is coming to the city of Greensboro. The Servant Center is a Greensboro nonprofit that helps homeless and disabled individuals as well as veterans become independent. The organization recently acquired the Holden Heights building on Boulevard Street for its new medical respite center.
