The Providence Journal is proud to announce the 2024 All-State Softball team, sponsored by the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The Providence Journal has been naming All-State teams for more than 80 years to recognize and celebrate the top student-athletes across Rhode Island. The Journal Sports staff, with some help from the coaches associations, determine the first- and second-team members. The All-State teams are also posted on the High School Sports Awards page on providence journal.com/sports.

All first-team members were nominees for Player of the Year in that sport, and winners were announced at the High School Sports Awards show held in June at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence, featuring former Oklahoma softball star Nicole Mendes, who is now an ESPN analyst.

In Softball, The Providence Journal Player of the Year is Phoenyx Silva of La Salle.

    2024 Providence Journal All-State Softball

    First Team

    Adriana Jeannenot, Pitcher

    Chariho, Freshman

With Jeannenot in the circle, it wasn’t hard to see why the Chargers were the surprise team of the 2024 season. The freshman didn’t take long to establish herself as one of the best pitchers in Rhode Island, finishing the year with 245 strikeouts in 139 innings and a 2.01 earned run average. She was one of Chariho’s leaders on offense as well and should be fun to watch the next three years.

    Sage Soares, Pitcher

    Coventry, Junior

Soares’ return to the program came with a lot of hype and the junior didn’t disappoint. The hard-throwing lefty overpowered just about every bater she faced this spring and her numbers showed it. Soares finished 13-1 with 143 strikeouts in 92 innings pitched, a 1.29 earned run average and an .804 WHIP. She’s a hot recruiting commodity and should be back with a vengeance next spring.

    Hailey Vigneau, Pitcher

    La Salle, Sophomore

The Rams were known for their prodigious lineup, but mediocre would have sufficed with how Vigneau pitched this spring. The sophomore pitched with a sniper’s precision, using her spin to deceive hitters all season. She finished with an 18-0 record, with a 1.70 ERA and 1.06 WHIP while striking out 188 in 119⅓ innings. Bad news for the rest of the state? She’s got two years left.

    Sofia Marella, Catcher

    Cranston West, Senior

Marella was a steady presence in the middle of the Falcons’ order and her hits were often heard, not seen. The senior catcher battled .512 this past spring, popping eight home runs and driving in a team-high 41 runs. Marella was a leader behind the plate and her play was instrumental in Cranston West’s run to the state title game. She’ll play next spring at St. Thomas Aquinas College.

    Lily Roumelis, First base

    La Salle, Junior

It was a breakout season for Roumelis, who put her impressive physical tools together and established herself as the state’s best first baseman. The junior helped solidify the middle of the Rams’ order, batting .442 with nine home runs, driving in 32 while scoring 29. Roumelis will be back next year as one of the state’s most dangerous hitters and has verbally committed to play at Marist College.

    Maia Salvo, Second base

    Ponaganset, Junior

Salvo didn’t just hit for the Chieftains this past spring, she hit when it mattered and came up big all season as Ponaganset claimed the D-II title. Salvo’s numbers spoke for themselves, as the first time All-Stater batted .518, hit 11 home runs, drove in 34 runs and scored 30. She has one season left, but Salvo has already verbally committed to continue her career at Marist College.

    Phoenyx Silva, Third base

    La Salle, Junior

Opponents tried to find ways to get her out and Silva continued to make that impossible. When Silva saw a pitch, she hit it, usually hard. The three-time All-State selection was the state’s best hitter, batting .493 with 37 runs scored, 29 RBI, nine home runs and an ungodly 1.726 OPS. The Providence Journal Player of the Year and Gatorade Player of the year is verbally committed to play at Iowa, but first will be back to terrorize the state’s best pitchers for her senior season.

    Giuliana Ialongo, Shortstop

    La Salle, Senior

Ialongo closed her career with a bang — almost literally — and more than earned her third straight first-team selection. The senior was the best defensive infielder by a longshot, but she hit .370, had nine home runs — including one in the state title game — 30 RBI and scored 41 runs. She’ll play next spring for the University of Rhode Island.

    Nevaeh Fatorma, Outfield

    Cranston East, Junior

Fatorma’s unique skillset made her the most electrifying player in the state. A maestro with the bat, the junior’s slap hits found gaps and often turned into extra bases, crucial in the Thunderbolts run to the D-III title. Fatorma — who would have led off on any team in Rhode Island, regardless of division — finished the year hitting .551, scored 36 runs, drove in 22, hit four homers and stole 26 bases.

    Lacie Grenier, Outfield

    Cumberland, Senior

One of the state’s most complete players, Grenier pounded at the plate and flashed a little leather in the outfield as well this spring. The senior — a second-team selection in 2023 — was a beast for the Clippers, hitting .417 with a 1.380 OPS, with six home runs and driving in 26. She’ll continue her playing career next spring at the University of Bridgeport.

    Siena Nardelli, Outfield

    Cranston West, Senior

It’s the second straight first-team selection for Nardelli and it isn't hard to see why. There wasn’t a play in center Nardelli couldn’t make, often giving up her body to ensure outs. She batted .267 this spring but was lethal on the basepaths, leading Cranston West with 25 runs scored while stealing a team-best 11 bases. Expect big things from Nardelli in her final season next spring.

    Diana Hall, Designated player

    La Salle, Junior

An injury couldn't slow Hall down as the junior established herself as one of the state’s best hitters. A second-team selection last year, Hall continued to rip the cover off the ball. She batted .419 and drove in 35 runs with nine homers. She was electric in the postseason, hitting four homers and driving in 12 to help the Rams complete an undefeated state title season.
