PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man convicted in connection with a deadly shooting outside of a gentleman’s club more than two years ago will spend the rest of his life behind bars, according to R.I. Attorney General Peter Neronha.

Robert Komhlan, 38, was found guilty earlier this year of first-degree murder, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence with death resulting, carrying a pistol without a license and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Neronha said Komhlan shot 30-year-old Angelo Gomez three times outside the Wonderland Gentlemen’s Club in April 2022. Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between two rival gangs inside the club.

Gomez was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a week later. Komhlan spent several months on the run before he was arrested in Georgia.

Wonderland was forced to temporarily shut down immediately after the shooting. The club was allowed to reopen a few days later after the Providence Board of Licenses determined it wasn’t a threat to public safety.

Komhlan will serve two consecutive life sentences, followed by an additional 25 years, at the ACI. He was also deemed a habitual offender and probation violator due to a prior conviction, which resulted in the judge tacking an additional 10 years on to his sentence.
