Man Shot, Killed At Pryor Motel Identified; Suspect In Custody

Pryor Creek Police have confirmed that a man is dead and another is in custody after a fatal shooting at the Econo Lodge Motel in Pryor around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

According to Police Chief Jeremy Cantrell, Officers found a male victim, identified as Aaron Gonzalez, with two gunshot wounds to his upper body outside a motel room.

The suspect had driven off, but eyewitnesses provided a vehicle description. Mayes County deputies later stopped the suspect’s vehicle near Chouteau, arresting James Leroy Jackson.

Gonzalez died from his injuries. Police said he is from Mexico and was staying at the hotel for work.

Cantrell said that the preliminary investigation and eyewitness reports suggest the victim was standing outside of the motel when the suspect pulled up in his car. Police say shots were fired at the victim after a brief exchange between the two.

Jackson could face multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is handling the case.
