(PUEBLO, Colo.) – The At-Large vacancy on Pueblo City Council is now filled.

On Monday, June 24, Brett Boston will be sworn in as the newest member of Pueblo’s City Council. The 26-year-old is the co-owner of Southwest Grill and one of five finalists nominated to fill the seat.

“After I made several attempts to get help in and around my business and the entire Highway 50 community, I became involved because the previous city administration did not mitigate the issues plaguing the area,” said Boston. “I attended and spoke at numerous council meetings to address issues plaguing our city, and eventually decided to get involved more directly by seeking to be appointed to fill the council vacancy.”

Boston is a Pueblo native and a graduate of Centennial High School and CSU Pueblo. He said public safety is his number one priority while in office, and he wants to “target drugs and epicenters for crime in the city and hold offenders accountable.” Boston also seeks to improve police staffing and help them engage with the community, especially young people. Homelessness and vagrancy are among his priorities.

Another priority for Boston is the economic development of the Steel City. He said he wants to “market [the] city better in attempts to keep people local and attract more visitors and potential new residents.” He also seeks to evaluate the city budget with the goal of eventually balancing it.

The At-Large Seat was vacant after Charles Hernandez’s resignation just a few months into his term. Before that, Heather Graham held the seat until she was sworn in as Pueblo’s mayor earlier this year.
