    UPDATE: Oak Ridge Fire crews on access to community information

    (PUEBLO/CUSTER COUNTIES, Colo.) — The Oak Ridge Fire has increased to 1,147 acres, according to an update on the Oak Ridge Fire Facebook page .

    Individuals can now sign up to receive daily messages on firefighting efforts and updates.

    Don’t miss any new information, to receive text messages text the key word ‘OakRidgeFire2024’ to 77295. Individuals can opt-out at any time.

    Messages will be sent to cell phones as they are released daily.

    The Incident Management Team said that Middle Creek Road is still closed due to the fire and the San Carlos Ranger District issued an area, trail, and road closure effective on Wednesday, June 26.

    Fire crews are hoping to create better access to information for the community near the Oak Ridge Fire by posting Fire Information Boards at various locations. To see the locations, click here for the Google Maps link. The link will continue to be updated as more locations are added.

    According to the Oak Ridge Facebook page , Public Information Officers for the fire will be at the Westcliffe Farmers Market on Friday, June 28 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Community members are invited to stop by for updates or questions.

    ORIGINAL STORY: Oak Ridge Fire grows overnight, more personnel arrive

    The Oak Ridge Fire team released an update on the status of the fire on Friday, June 28 at around 8 a.m.

    According to fire crews, the Oak Ridge Fire increased by 63 acres on Thursday, June 27, and increased slightly to 1,109 acres overnight. The fire’s spread on Thursday was mostly in the west-southwest direction and remains three miles northwest of Beulah and is still at 0% containment.

    Fire crews expect moderate smoke in the Beulah area on Friday, which will clear out briefly in the morning and then increase through the afternoon into the evening. There is a chance of possible showers and thunderstorms in the area which could cause erratic and gusty winds that can send smoke in any direction. Fire crews expect Cañon City, Pueblo, and Colorado City to have good air quality but a possible light haze in the afternoon.

    The public can sign up to get emergency alerts through the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office or the Custer County Information Page to get information during an emergency.

    Fire crews have increased to 445 total personnel. “The terrain is incredibly steep, rocky, and dangerous along the western side so indirect line and contingency planning to balance the risk of firefighter safety and suppression efforts has been a priority,” according to the Friday morning update.
