(PUEBLO, Colo.) — Brand new technology debuted Tuesday, July 2 at the Pueblo Police Department (PPD) is changing the game for law enforcement.

It’s called the Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) and allows police the ability to virtually watch crime hot spots live all over the city.

“It’s going to help drop response times to these violent incidents. It’s also going to give us the evidence and intelligence we need to more effectively respond and put together really solid cases for prosecution,” said Deputy Chief James Martin with PPD Support Services.

When officers respond to a call, back at the RTCC, they can also pull up a livestream body camera feed that shows exactly where and what the officer is responding to, according to Sgt. Jeremy Matthews, who heads up the new center.

“If this officer is chasing somebody, we could pull that up and actually air their chase for them so they don’t have to air that, they can focus on the suspect or what’s going on live for them,” Sgt. Matthews said.

Police departments like Chicago and New York City have already added this kind of tech to their arsenals. Since then, it has significantly helped law enforcement to clean up their streets – and amplify the impact of police work. Something that PPD could benefit from, as the department is down 46 officers.

“It’s going to be a power. It’s a force multiplier, right,” Deputy Chief Martin said. “So, we have the ability to be there with those officers during that time and to get the information and intelligence they need.”
