Ex-Vikings O-Lineman Gets a Shot with New Team
At the time, many felt that Rick Spielman pulled off some highway robbery. Landing guard Wyatt Davis at 86th overall looked like a stellar move, especially since it coincided with scooping up tackle Christian Darrisaw at 23rd. But while things have worked out with Darrisaw, Davis never caught on in...
Vikings’ Defensive Line is Facing a Ton of Doubt Even as Competition and Depth Grow
Over the past little bit, I’ve been unveiling a position-by-position roster projection for the Vikings. As things flip over to defense, we begin up front with the Vikings’ defensive line. There’s Harrison Phillips and then … quite a bit of doubt. There are a lot of players to...
Two Minnesota Vikings Get the Dark-Horse Treatment
Following the 2022 season, Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year. It was the first hardware to go to a player employed by the Vikings since Adrian Peterson earned his MVP trophy. To this day, he has been the last non-quarterback to win the MVP trophy for his electric 2,000-yard season.
Another Vikings’ Star Player Is Expected to Ask for a Huge Contract
The Minnesota Vikings have just handed three-time Pro Bowler Justin Jefferson his contract extension after four years of excellence. Jefferson will make $140 million in the four seasons following his fifth-year option and is under contract through the 2028 campaign. Minnesota’s ownership might be asked to sign another big check in the near future.
New PFF Article Slams Vikings’ Defensive Line
Pro Football Focus has been busy ranking individual positions, entire position units, as well as entire rosters this off-season, as I’ve personally covered over the last month. They’re at it again, this time deploying Sam Monson (infamous among Kirk Cousins lovers on Twitter/X) to rank the NFL’s defensive lines.
5 Vikings Under the Most Pressure in 2024
The 2024 Minnesota Vikings enter the season with low expectations, perhaps the lowest since Kirk Cousins joined the team in 2018. Before that, there was some uncertainty at quarterback, but Mike Zimmer’s strong defense overshadowed some of the problems. Currently, the oddsmakers view the franchise as a seven-win team.
The Financial Details are in for Vikings’ New TE
Minnesota has thrown everything except the kitchen sink at the tight end room. With T.J. Hockenson ailing, the solution has involved upping the competition by a considerable degree. The Vikings’ new TEs are abundant. Moving into the draft, there was the aforementioned Hockenson kicking around alongside the three from...
Vikings Rumors: Money to Burn, UDFA DT Has a Shot, and Trading a QB
Even though we’re officially into the portion of the year when Vikings rumors are slowing down, we’ll still be highlighting some of the purple rumblings. The “Vikings Rumor Wrangle” is a series that keeps readers informed on what’s being whispered about in Vikings Land. In this iteration, we discuss the Vikings having some cap space to burn, a UDFA defensive tackle with some potential, and then the ongoing possibility of a trade involving a Vikings QB.
Two Vikings Included in List of Best Players 25 and Under
Two Vikings recently received high praise from a national NFL writer. Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports compiled a list of the top 25 players in the league who are 25 or younger. Benjamin noted that 2024 rookies would not be included, and “past performance, future projection, and, to a lesser degree, positional value” were the metrics used to build this list.
One Vikings Acquisition Deserves More Buzz
The Minnesota Vikings have added a bunch of players in the 2024 offseason, the third one in Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s tenure. Major buzz is obviously directed at the splashy rookies J.J. McCarthy and Dallas Turner, who folks hope can become big-time contributors for a long time. In free agency, Adofo-Mensah signed a plethora of players and was much more active than in the previous campaigns.
As June Slips Away, the Vikings’ Top Draft Picks Remain Unsigned
The 2024 NFL Draft was a tremendously exciting event for the Vikings, largely due to the arrival of the Vikings’ top picks. In the opening round, Minnesota scooped up QB J.J. McCarthy at No. 10 and EDGE Dallas Turner at No. 17. On Thursday, April 25th, those two became...
Vikings Should Trade for Kevin O’Connell’s Old Friend
The Minnesota Vikings arguably employ the league’s number-one receiver. Recently-turned 25-year-old Justin Jefferson signed his costly contract extension worth $35 million per season. He has been the face of the franchise and is now paid as such. In four seasons with the organization, Jefferson caught 392 passes for 5,899 yards and 30 touchdowns, collecting various awards, honors, and records.
Rumor: Vikings’ Veteran WR Add Off to Humdrum Start
Truth be told, the expectations never should have been very high for Trent Sherfield, the Vikings’ veteran WR who signed back in March. Sherfield, 28, has good size at 6’1″, 205 but has been a journeyman throughout his career. Most recently, he was playing for the Bills, coming in behind Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis while putting up 11 receptions for 86 yards and a score. The word from The Athletic‘s Alec Lewis isn’t overly promising for Mr. Sherfield.
Can a Vikings D-Lineman at a Career Crossroads Finally Live Up to His Potential?
Vikings d-lineman James Lynch certainly sounds like a Brian Flores kind of player. Hard working and versatile, Lynch is capable of moving up and down the defensive line in search of mismatches. There’s some power in his game and some pass-rush sizzle, so he could be a bit of a chess piece up front. Intriguing, right? Can Flores turn the fifth-year player into a key piece of his ’24 defense?
Predicting Each Vikings’ Starter’s Madden NFL 25 Rating: Edges and Tackles Edition
We’re back with another edition predicting the ratings of the projected Vikings starters on the future-releasing Madden NFL 25 from EA Sports. We’ve done offensive skill positions and the secondary unit, so this time, it’s the guys on the edges on both sides of the line of scrimmage.
2 Ex-Vikings Could Fill an Opening on Current Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings acquired a longtime player just last year after spending a couple of years without him. Anthony Barr joined the team late in the season when Jordan Hicks was forced to miss time with an injury. He played four games, made one tackle, and saw the field on 49 defensive snaps and 11 on special teams.
3 Deep Sleepers With a Chance to Impact the 2024 Vikings
Many important roster questions will be answered soon, as the training camp will begin in a few weeks. Rookies report to TCO Performance Center on July 21st, while the veterans get two extra days of vacation. In training camp, most eyes will be on the quarterback competition between Sam Darnold and J.J. McCarthy and perhaps on some job openings like that for the WR3 and the cornerback opposite of Byron Murphy.
Vikings Linebacker Gains a Mere Pittance in Guaranteed Cash but a Shot at the Roster
A couple weeks ago, PurplePTSD considered wide receiver Jeshaun Jones, someone who snagged an impressive $235,000 in guaranteed money. The contract detail suggests Minnesota has some faith in the UDFA to push for a roster spot. What about a Vikings linebacker without the same level of financial commitment?. K.J. Cloyd...
If Jordan Addison Isn’t Another WR1, That’s Ok
Second-year pass catcher Jordan Addison is looking to build upon a mostly impressive rookie season as the 2024 NFL season draws closer (but still feels like an eternity away). From a season-long standpoint, Addison’s production was right in line with what is expected of a WR2 in the modern game of football in 2023. He was a big play machine when Kirk Cousins was healthy, hauling in some sweet touchdowns when being targeted deep. Per Pro Football Reference, he racked up 911 yards on 70 receptions and found pay-dirt ten times, which ended up leading the team. When Minnesota spent the 23rd pick of the 2023 NFL Draft on the USC and Pitt product, it was one of a couple of selections that would be considered a “no-brainer” for where the Vikings roster was at at that time.
The Hall Of Fame Series: Jim Finks
For as much emphasis as NFL fans put on game day, it’s easy to forget that those 17 days are the culmination of a week of preparation and rosters built behind the scenes over a collection of years. When teams lose, the blame usually falls on the shoulders of the head coach. But a team can’t win if there isn’t any talent. While it’s up to the coach to bring out the full potential of the talent he is given, it’s the responsibility of the general manager to not only spot talent but acquire it as well.
