Vermilion City Council has appointed local author and retired Vermilion Local Schools teacher Joette McDonald as the city’s first poet laureate. In a July 8 Council meeting, Vermilion Mayor Jim Forthofer put forth McDonald’s name to serve as Vermilion and the surrounding area’s poet laureate, highlighting reasons why she was deserving of the position, according to a news release from Jim Chapple, Ph.D.
