    This story has been updated.

    A 38-year-old man was apprehended after allegedly trying to break into a home in a residential neighborhood in the Hudson Valley, police said.

    The incident happened in Putnam County on Thursday, July 11 around 2:20 p.m., when a domestic disturbance was reported at a home on Orchard Road in the Lake Secor neighborhood of Carmel, according to Carmel Police Lt. Michael Bodo.

    Arriving officers found a Bronx resident later identified as Michael Melendez bleeding profusely from his arm after allegedly punching a glass panel door in an attempt to enter a female victim's home, Bodo said.

    Melendez was combative and appeared to be drunk, according to Bodo. He was then arrested and charged with:

    • Second-degree criminal trespass;
    • Fourth-degree criminal mischief;
    • Resisting arrest;
    • Second-degree obstructing governmental administration;
    • Endangering the welfare of a child.

    To receive treatment for his injured arm, Melendez was taken to Putnam Hospital Center. He was later arraigned in Carmel Town Court and released on his own recognizance.

    Carmel Police said there is no remaining threat or hazard to the public.
