Long-standing bull statue topples over during Monday’s strong storm
MORTON, Ill. (WMBD) — The strong storm that passed through Morton on Monday tipped a bull that has been standing since the 1960s. According to Allen Hollan, Mike Murphy Ford office manager, the bull statue on the corner of Morton Avenue and Jackson Street was tipped and caused damage to both the statue and the car next to it.

More tornadoes than first thought during Monday’s derecho
The National Weather Service in two offices says even more tornadoes hit close to the Galesburg area on Monday night than were first confirmed. The Quad Cities office says their service areas had seven tornadoes spawn from the derecho that went across the area, while the weather service office in Lincoln says they’re now counting six — mostly in the Peoria area.

For the first time in nearly 170 years, staff at Illinois State University’s Laboratory Schools, have formally moved to unionize. The Lab Schools Association, a group of around 120 staffers from Thomas Metcalf [pre-K to 8th grade] and University High schools, filed a petition for representation with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board [IELRB] in late June.
