Central Illinois Weather Update: Scattered Storms and Cooler Temperatures Ahead
Lincoln, IL – Severe thunderstorms are expected across central Illinois today, primarily south of a Taylorville to Danville line. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln issued an alert for scattered storms, which could bring damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall. Cooler and drier air is forecasted to follow, offering relief for the latter half of the week.
Illinois Wins $334M for Electric Vehicle Plant Reopening
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and U.S. Representatives Bill Foster (D-IL-11) and Eric Sorensen (D-IL-17) today announced that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is awarding Stellantis $334,763,050 in Domestic Auto Manufacturing Conversion Grant program funds to assist in the reopening of the Belvidere Assembly Plant and in the construction of the plant’s new electric vehicle battery production facility. Stellantis has pledged to invest additional funding of its own to ensure the modernization of the plant is fully-funded.

Princeton Council okays city water rate increase
The Princeton City Council authorized a rate increase for city water Monday night. The rate increase is scheduled to take effect with the August billing. According to City Manager Teresa Wittenauer, the average increase per household will be about $3. She cited increased costs, particularly with chemicals used in treatment and mandated EPA testing.

Bloomington man convicted of murder in 2019 shooting death
A McLean County jury has convicted a Bloomington man of first-degree murder for a fatal shooting on New Year's Eve 2019. Prosecutors say Dewon Griffin, who is now 24, was arrested in January 2020 while hiding in a makeshift crawlspace at a Bloomington residence. He was charged in the fatal shooting of Tariq Houston, 17, of Springfield, at an apartment complex on Putnam Avenue in northwest Normal.
