Procurement Services to Host First Annual Procurement Expo for Vendors

Prince William County Procurement Services is inviting vendors and prospective vendors interested in doing business with the county to the first annual Procurement Expo: “Making Connections, Building Partnerships” on Thursday, June 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Connaughton Plaza at the Prince William County Government Complex, 1 County Complex Court, Woodbridge. The expo aims to link the vendor community with county agencies, helping the county fulfill its business needs while providing vendors the opportunity to market their services and gain insights into doing business with the county.
Sign Up for Lottery to be on Waitlist for Housing Choice Voucher Specialized Program

The Prince William County Office of Housing and Community Development, or OHCD, will open the online application for the Housing Choice Voucher Program Lottery for the Mainstream Specialized Program on Tuesday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. During this time, county residents can submit an application for an opportunity to be chosen as part of the lottery process. Those who apply and meet the special population qualifications are placed in a lottery pool, and if selected, will be placed on the Mainstream Specialized Program waitlist, if eligible.

Sentara Hospitals Earn ‘High Performer’ Designation for LGBTQ+ Support
Provided by Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center. All 12 Sentara Health hospitals in Virginia and North Carolina have earned ‘High Performer’ designation for 2024 from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), a nationwide organization working to achieve equality and inclusion for LGBTQ+ persons. HRC’s annual Health Equality Index (HEI) surveys hospitals and health systems for their policies on equity and inclusion for LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees. Out of 1,065 hospitals participating in the survey, Sentara hospitals were among 462 to earn ‘High Performer’ designation.

Bristow Celebree School Sponsoring Local Student
The local Celebree School in Bristow has helped sponsor a scholarship for an area student. The new franchise has sponsored a $3,000 scholarship through the Prince William Chamber of Commerce for Patriot High School senior Helen Jacob. She is graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 4.258 GPA, after having spent her time in high school in Key Club, Law Club, National Honor Society and International Club. Jacob is also trilingual; fluent in English, Malayalam and ASL, and has plans to attend Virginia Tech to study business and go to law school. She plans to study family law with an emphasis on human trafficking and sex crimes.

Neabsco Creek Boardwalk Turns 5

Since that time, there have been annual photo contests where photographers showcased the fascinating beauty of the great blue heron and other birds who call the wetlands home. Hundreds Expected to Attend Sheetz Grand Opening in Gainesville on May 14
On Tuesday, May 14, Sheetz, a major Mid-Atlantic restaurant and convenience chain, will officially open its new store located at 7201 New Stable Way, Gainesville. The grand opening festivities will begin outside the store at 9 a.m. with multiple prizes awarded, including a grand prize giveaway of free Sheetz for a Year.* The store’s official ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 10:45 a.m. This new location, which opens to the public at 8 a.m., will also welcome customers by offering free self-serve coffee and soda for the entire grand opening day.

Call to Action: Local Volunteer Opportunities
You can help homebound seniors get a hot, nutritious meal! Meals on Wheels has an urgent need for volunteers to deliver noontime meals to homebound older adults weekdays between 10 a.m. and 12 noon. Daily routes take about one and a half hours to complete; the schedule is flexible! Volunteers must have their own vehicle, valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance. Volunteers must also pass a background and driving record check. Meals on Wheels operates out of the Manassas and Woodbridge Senior Centers, and you’ll feel great knowing you are helping to fight food insecurity and deliver a friendly smile to our local senior population! Middle and High School Students Place at Virginia FCCLA State Leadership Conference
Sixteen students from Patriot High School’s Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) club participated in the Virginia FCCLA State Leadership Conference, achieving either first or second place. As a school chapter, the Patriot FCCLA club received several accolades, including a membership award for having the second-largest chapter in the state, an Outstanding Platinum Chapter Award for their club programming, and the Connie S. Rhoton Legacy Award, bestowed upon FCCLA chapters that exemplify a well-rounded program aligned with the mission and spirit of FCCLA.
