    Meck DA’s Violent Crimes Team convicts 32 people in one week

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A total of 32 defendants were convicted the week of June 24, according to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office’s Violent Crimes Team.

    Guilty pleas were entered before Superior Court Judge Bradley B. Letts in courtroom 5310. Of the 32 convictions, the DA’s Office highlighted 10:

    Lucas Rumfelt, 20, was sentenced to between 3 years, 2 months, and 4 years, 10 months, after pleading guilty to discharging a weapon into occupied property.

    Anthony Dent, 38, pleaded guilty to trafficking cocaine and was sentenced to between 2 years, 11 months, and 4 years, 3 months.

    James Evans, 18, was sentenced to between 1 year, 8 months, and 3 years, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Evans was also ordered to pay restitution to the victim.

    Richard Lewis, 40, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was sentenced to 1-2 years in prison. If Lewis successfully completes 2 years of supervised probation, he will not serve time. He will be required to wear an electronic monitor for 90 days.

    Lovett Henderson, 38, was sentenced to between 1 year, 11 months, and 3 years, 4 months, after pleading guilty to second-degree arson. If he completes a year of probation, he will not have to serve the above prison sentence. Henderson is also required to complete Recovery Court, serve a split sentence of 150 days and not have contact with the victim.

    Jacorian Neal, 24, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was sentenced to 1 year, 1 month, and 2 years, 1 month.

    Tormeko Lowery, 27, was sentenced to between 10 months and 1 year, 9 months after pleading guilty to two counts of malicious conduct by a prisoner. If he successfully completes a year and a half of probation, he will not have to serve this prison sentence.

    Alex Waiters, 20, pleaded guilty to malicious conduct by a prisoner and assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and was sentenced to between 1 year, 1 month, and 2 years, 1 month. However, Judge Letts deducted 2 years and 87 days as time served.

    Esteban Marines, 23, was sentenced to between 1 year, 1 month, and 2 years, 1 month, after pleading guilty to common law robbery.

    Shaquille Steel, 28, pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon of mass destruction. He was sentenced to between 1 year, 1 month, and 2 years, 1 month, but will not serve that time if he successfully completes 2 years of probation.

    District Attorney’s Office did not say what led up to these arrests and convictions.
