ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A Rowan County man is out on parole following a conviction of second-degree attempted kidnapping, according to North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections records.

On February 15, 2023, then-24-year-old Hunter Chase Nance met a woman at a gas station and exchanged numbers. Investigators say the woman went to Nance’s house on Peaceful Lane, where he locked the door and attacked her with a knife.

The victim cut her hands escaping and concerned citizens called first responders, according to authorities. On February 20, warrants were issued for Nance’s arrest.

Deputies say Nance told them that he chose the woman at random and wanted to kill her “for the thrill”. He reportedly expressed interest in other gruesome fantasies and said the victim “spoiled” the plan by fighting back.

He was charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, and his bond was set at $1.2 million. However, it appears that he was not convicted of these charges.

NCDAC records show that Nance was convicted of first-degree attempted kidnapping on August 1, 2024, his 26th birthday. He spent one week in prison, from August 1–8, and was released on parole.

It is unclear if his time spent in jail was considered during sentencing. Sentencing for this offense is typically between one year, two months, and two years, two months.

Nance will remain on parole until May 5, 2025. Queen City News has reached out for more information related to Nance’s August 1 court appearance and conviction.
