    Woman hit and killed by train in South End on Friday: CMPD

    CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A woman has died after being hit by a train in South End, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

    Around 9:20 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, officers responded to the 600 block of W. Summit Ave. for reports of an unresponsive woman near the railroad tracks. When they arrived, they found 36-year-old Midaina Marrero dead at the scene.

    Investigators believe Marrero was walking on the railroad tracks when she was hit by the train, officials said. Her family has been notified of her death.

    CMPD says this is an ongoing investigation. Anyone who saw the crash or has information should contact Detective Kupfer at 704-432-2169, Ext. 1, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
