ROCK HILL, S.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A 16-year-old has been charged in connection to a deadly crash involving a golf cart that killed a 15-year-old girl, according to Rock Hill Police.

On Monday, Aug. 26, the 16-year-old boy was petitioned to Family Court for the charge of reckless homicide. Investigators determined the boy, driving a Honda CRV, was going too fast above the speed limit which caused the fatal collision on Laurel Creek Drive on July 25, 2024.

Officers were told there were six riders on the golf cart which flipped over upon impact. One of the riders, 15-year-old Marlie Sullivan, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Aside from the boy’s excessive speed, police say he was also driving in the wrong lane. Three other golf cart riders were rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rock Hill Police said the boy remained at the scene. Due to his age, no other information was released.
