CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will continue renting space for its North Division office.

On Monday, City Council approves a renewal of the lease at the Harris Oaks Business Park off Statesville Road, where the division has been housed since 2005. Those officers will move into a permanent home at 1818 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road when the 24-month lease with AF4 Charlotte Industrial expires.

The City purchased the 9.2-acre Mount-Holly Huntersville property in 2020 for $435,000.

    Ammo contract approved

The city also approved a three-year contract for CMPD’s ammunition.

Dana Safety Supply Inc. is the sole, factory-authorized law enforcement distributor for Olin Winchester ammunition in North Carolina. The agreement has annual aggregate costs estimated at $400,000.

Steven Coker with Charlotte’s Business Inclusion program explained that firearms and ammunition firms are exempt from the city’s minority- and women-owned business contracter goals.

“There are no MWSBE vendors who that kind of work,” he said.
