CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, two separate incidents involving firearms occurred during the first week of school.

The first incident occurred Tuesday at Sedgefield Middle School. Parents received a message from the school saying in part:

Our security scanners detected a clip with ammunition in a parent’s bag when they were dropping off a student. The SRO promptly responded and coordinated with CMPD. Please note that the firearm associated with the clip was not in the bag; the parent had locked and secured the weapon in a vehicle.

As a precautionary measure students were placed on “no movement” while the investigation by CMPD was underway and kept in classrooms. Learning continued without interruption. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. CMPD is handling the investigation.
