NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — The Mets were supposed to kick off the regular season on Thursday, but rain in the forecast has pushed the opening game to Friday, the team announced.

The game, against the Milwaukee Brewers, was originally slated for 1:10 p.m. on Thursday. It will now be played at 1:40 p.m. on Friday, with gates opening at 11:40 p.m.

According to AccuWeather, there is supposed to be rain and drizzle throughout the day on Thursday, which could be heavy enough to cause ponding on streets and sidewalks and potentially cause flooding in poor drainage areas, especially in the city.

Fans with tickets for Thursday’s game will be able to use them on Friday instead, the team said. Complimentary tickets and those marked “NO RAINCHECK” have no value and do not constitute a rain check, but can be used to attend Friday’s game.

Until Friday at 10:30 a.m., season ticket members may exchange their Opening Day tickets for a 2024 regular season game at Citi Field.

The Mets said that following the end of Friday’s game, a digital voucher will be added to each attending patron’s My Mets Tickers account for unused tickets.

This voucher will become available at 10 a.m. on Saturday, at which point fans may exchange the voucher for a ticket comparable in price and location to another regular season home game at Citi Field. The voucher excludes the June 25-26 Subway Series against the New York Yankees.

Prepaid parking will be valid for Friday’s rescheduled game, and ticket holders for Thursday’s game with a prepaid pass who do not attend Friday will receive a voucher redeemable for a new prepaid parking pass in their My Mets Tickets account.

To purchase tickets for Opening Day at Citi Field, fans can visit Mets.com/Tickets or call 718-506-TIXX.
