Sal still doesn't believe in Mets amid winning streak, but 'they have my attention'

The Mets are heating up, winners of five in a row and nine of their last 11, and while it was refreshing for Sal to tune in and be invested in a game on Sunday afternoon, he still isn’t buying back in to the season, at least not yet.

“They have my attention. The Mets are the hottest team in Major League Baseball,” Sal said. “It’s refreshing to watch them actually play games the way they’re supposed to be played.

“I’m not there yet. Okay, they’ve won five in a row and nine of 11, Diaz is back, maybe Senga on the way, but they’re still the third-worst team in the National League and under .500. They needed to do this to get the attention back.”

The Mets are just 1.5 games out of a Wild Card spot, but Sal is focused on the very few teams behind them in the standings and the plethora of teams ahead, and still can’t say for sure whether New York is actually a good team. But, at the very least, they are giving fans a reason to watch.

“I don’t believe in them. I don’t think they’re a good team, and I don’t believe in them at all,” Sal said. “I’m excited that they’re playing well, and Mets fans should be excited…my heart does not believe in this team.

“There are signs to be hopeful…but I’m not there yet. I’ve seen too much. Why did they have to start 0-5 and fall to 11 games under?”
