Sal's new goal for streaking Mets: Surpass Braves in playoff race

Sal’s belief in the Mets is still not concrete just yet, but as the winning streak reaches seven games, expectations are starting to change.

Despite his lack of belief in this core and this team, Sal felt this roster had enough talent to sneak into an expanded playoff field. Now, as New York continues to roll, he has his sights set on a better Wild Card spot, and to overtake a bitter rival in the NL East.

“Now, my goal, and this is what their goal should be: Atlanta,” Sal said.

“It’s not unrealistic. The Mets are only six games back of the Braves right now in the loss column. They’re playing good baseball, and the Braves are beaten up. They are having a down year by almost every measurement. That would get me excited. Not just sneaking in to the third spot. It’s realistic to get the second spot…but that’s the goal. The division is done, but chase Atlanta.”

The Mets are 5.5 games back of Atlanta for second in the NL East, and currently hold the top Wild Card spot. But they have been banged up, most notably losing Ronald Acuna Jr. for the season, and Sal believes they’re beatable. And with the way the Mets are playing right now, why not?
