C-Mac: Mets can beat nearly any National League team and cannot consider selling

The Mets continue to look like one of the best teams in baseball since returning from London, though there are still reports of the team potentially selling at the trade deadline, even as they sit just two games below .500 and more than a month to go until the deadline.

C-Mac says selling would be a foolish move for a team that looks like it can beat any National League squad outside of the top-tier clubs, and if that’s the case, why not go for it and hope the crapshoot of the playoffs falls in the Mets favor?

“The lineup looks like the lineup we hoped that it could be heading into the year,” C-Mac said. “They’re just a force right now, and J.D. Martinez has been everything you could have hoped. Right now, they are playing as good as anyone.

“The Braves, the Phillies, the Dodgers. Who else inside the National League can you tell me is certainly better than the Mets? That they can’t beat?”

David Stearns will have a decision to make as he was brought in to lead a rebuild and turn the team into a consistent contender, but after teams with under 90 wins reached the World Series in consecutive years, could the Mets really punt on a season when the playoffs are well within range?

“We talk about the crapshoot nature of what the MLB playoffs have become,” C-Mac said. “There was a time where selling made a ton of sense…I don’t expect them to buy at all. But I’m sorry, you can’t try and play both sides of this, and scratch that itch of trading for prospects while still competing.”
