Grimace Is Not The Only Factor To The Mets Success

If you haven’t heard by now, the New York Mets have been thriving in their “Grimace Era.” The Mets have won 12 out of their last 14 games since the McDonald’s Mascot threw out the first pitch on June 12th.

New York began their surge with a seven-game win streak and they are now back over .500 for the first time since May 2nd. While all the trending media attention remains on Grimace, is there another significant factor to the Mets' current success?

The Return Of Francisco Alvarez

The Mets starting catcher was activated off the IL on June 11th, one day before Grimace made his appearance. Since returning to the lineup, Franciso Alvarez has been hot and he has provided some necessary power in the middle of this Mets lineup.

Franciso is currently on a 10-game hitting streak and is batting .516 with 3 HRs, and 9 RBIs, along with a 1.666 OPS over that span. More importantly, the Mets have now improved to 23-8 on the season with Alvarez in the lineup.

The former top prospect in all of baseball is proving why he has warranted all of the hype. Alvarez has helped spark this Mets’ team along with some better play from guys like Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo .

New York has not lost a series since getting swept by the Dodgers at the end of May. They’ve improved to 16-6 in June and have won six of their last eight series against the Nationals, Marlins, Padres, Rangers, Cubs, and Yankees while tying the other two series vs. Diamondbacks and Phillies.

The Mets took the first game of their series vs. the Astros last night and will look to keep that streak alive by trying to take at least one more game this weekend.
