NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- Police were searching Tuesday for a man who allegedly tried to kidnap a 3-year-old girl from a Queens daycare center on Monday.

The NYPD released video showing the suspect inside the Children's House Montessori around the time of the attempted kidnapping in Flushing.

According to police, he walked into the daycare on Leavitt Street just before 5 p.m. and said he was there to pick up the girl.

He referred to her by name and told staff her father would be 20 minutes late, police said.

The staff refused to release the child to him after checking to see if he was on an emergency contact list from the parents.

He told them he'd wait outside but eventually fled on foot, police said.

The child remained safe and secure during the incident and was not removed, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
