    Escalator fire breaks out at JFK Airport’s Terminal 8: FDNY

    QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) – An escalator fire sent smoke into John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday, according to the FDNY.

    The fire broke out around 7 a.m., fire officials said. About 100 people were evacuated from Terminal 8, according to Port Authority.

    A video posted to Citizen App showed police, firefighters and ambulances surrounding the terminal . Passengers, with luggage in tow, were also seen standing outside of the airport.

    At least nine people were injured, according to the FDNY. One person refused medical attention and eight others were taken to local hospitals for further evaluation.

    Operations at the terminal have resumed and the cause of the fire is under investigation, according to Port Authority.
