Gerrit Cole Goes Viral For Embarrassing Move Against Mets

On Wednesday, Gerrit Cole officially entered an infamous club no MLB pitcher ever wants to join.

Cole got the start for the New York Yankees during the finale of their two-game Subway Series against the New York Mets at Yankee Stadium.

With Pete Alonso at the plate in the 4th inning, Cole threw a 91-mph meatball right down the middle. Alonso didn't waste his chance. The beefy Mets slugger sent the ball to left-center field for a two-run blast.

The home run gave the Mets a 3-2 lead.

Giving up a home run to Alonso is hardly embarrassing on its own. The man is a two-time Home Run Derby champ and has over 200 career homers across five and a half seasons. But what will haunt Cole forever is what he did after Alonso put bat to ball.

The Yankees right-hander became the newest member of the "pointing up on a home run" club. Cole pointed to the heavens in a futile attempt to keep Alonso's big fly from reaching the seats.

The moment was yet another letdown in what has been a frustrating season for Cole. He let his anger out on the dugout fence after he was pulled in the 6th.

The former Cy Young winner has a bloated ERA of 5.40 across seven starts this season.

Cole has been particularly bad against the Mets throughout his career. He entered Wednesday game with a 6.64 ERA in eight starts against the Mets. The mark is well above his career ERA of 3.19.
