Evan worried Kodai Senga injury was 'beginning of the end' for 2024 Mets

Senga had been dominating in his season debut before the injury, and while the Mets won the game, they went on to lose the next to, splitting the four-game set with the rival Braves.

Evan now wonders if that sight of Senga down on the ground in pain is what sends the team spiralling in the other direction after nearly two months of inspired play.

“I’ve got a brain and I’ve got a heart…my brain tells me the Mets just lost two games to the Braves, they split the series, not the end of the world,” Evan said. “But then you’ve got this heart…that heart just tells me things that I feel. On Friday night, I was at Citi Field…I was having a good old time.

“When Kodai Senga went down like he got shot, and the Mets offense got shut down on Saturday and Sunday…I have this sinking feeling in my gut and in my heart that the Mets high-water mark of 2024 was Friday night before Kodai Senga went down. Am I being too crazy?”

Both Morash and Tommy Lugauer made their case for why the Mets are not destined to stumble from here on out, but it wasn’t enough to inject new positivity into Evan.

“It was a nice attempt. I appreciate it. I’m still very concerned,” Evan said. “I am deeply concerned we are going to see Friday night as the beginning of the end.”
