QUEENSTOWN — Local first responders from across the county partnered with Maryland State Police Aviation Command for a demonstration with Trooper 6 helicopter at the University of Maryland Shore Emergency Center July 13.

Many hands-on topics were covered as trooper paramedics reviewed patient loading strategies, whole blood administration, NO DESAT patient oxygenation procedures and how to best assist prior to the helicopter’s arrival on scene.

A question and answer session also sparked conversation about landing zone safety, instrument flight rules, weather considerations, aircraft resource management and team dynamics.

Maryland State Police Aviation Command has seven helicopter sections statewide and Trooper 6 is based out of Easton in Talbot County.

Participating departments included members from Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department, Grasonville Volunteer Fire Department, United Communities Volunteer Fire Department, Queenstown Volunteer Fire Department, Goodwill Fire Department, as well as the Queen Anne’s County Department of Emergency Services.
