Viola Mae (McGlaughlin) Miller, 89 of Gettysburg, PA passed away at the Gettysburg Hospital on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Born January 27, 1935 in Fairfield, PA she was the daughter of the late Ralph & Leila (Warren) McGlaughlin. Viola was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Jack R. Miller, who died December 06, 2015. She enjoyed knitting, tending to her garden and canning fruits and vegetables. The most important thing in her life was her family and the joy of spending time, caring for and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Viola will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her three children, Francis R. Miller (Karen) of Orrtanna, PA, Donna L. Cooper (Steve) Abbottstown, PA and Wendy A. Schubbe of Gettysburg, six grandchildren, Jason Miller (Jody), Justin Ryder (Kami), Rebecca Shartzer (Tommy), Allyson Mangum (Michael), Madyson Schubbe (Ryan Hanson) and Jackson Hilbert, six great grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Grayson, Leila, Taylor and Emma, a brother, Roger McGlaughlin (Sandy) of York Springs, PA and a sister, Shirley Thomas (Ron) of Gettysburg. In addition to her husband and parents, Viola was predeceased by a sister, Doris Miller and a brother, Edwin McGlaughlin. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg with Pastor Allen Hersh, officiating. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral services on Friday, August 2nd. Nina Fegan, 77, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on July 21, 2024 at her home. Born May 10, 1947, she was a daughter of the late James E. Fegan, Sr. and Margaret Eckels Fegan. Nina was a 1965 graduate of CASHS. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Nursing School in Lancaster, PA as a Registered Nurse. Nina served as a Sister of St. Joseph’s for 15 years in the Philadelphia area. She was employed as an RN several places in Philadelphia including St. Mary’s Nursing Home and Moss Rehabilitation until her retirement in 2017. She enjoyed puzzles, reading and vacationing in Cape May, NJ.

23 July 2024- On July 18 and 19, 2024, Gettysburg National Military Park and Gettysburg Foundation staff received a delegation from our Sister Park, the Sekigahara Battlefield, Sekigahara, Japan. Representatives from the Gifu Prefecture government, Sekigahara Battlefield and Japanese tourism associates were in attendance. Since the 2016 World Battlefields Summit Joint Declaration, this most recent visit continued the Sister Park relationship between the Gettysburg and Sekigahara battlefields. At the same time, the Borough of Gettysburg signed a Sister City agreement with the town of Sekigahara, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
