Obituary: Anna ‘Ann’ Louise Deckert
Anna âAnnâ Louise (Davis) Deckert, 80 of Gettysburg passed away on July 20, 2024 at the Gettysburg Hospital after a long illness. Born on October 26, 1943 in Gettysburg, she was the second child of Betty Kroushour Leonard and Lester Davis. She was the wife of James H. Deckert of Gettysburg and mother of two sons, Bradley Deckert and Chad Deckert.

Tony Howard Neighoff, 65, of Littlestown, PA, passed at home while surrounded by his loving family. Born August 5, 1958 in Baltimore County, Tony was the loving son of the late Alfred and Joan (Haines) Poland.Tony was a Veteran of the United States Navy who loved jigsaw puzzles, horses, and the Houston Texans along with being a big fan of junk food.Tony is survived by his children, David Kraus, Bonnie Scheder and her husband Christopher; grandchildren, Colin and Blaine Dorbert, and Anna Lefler; great grandson, Cooper Hull; brothers, Irvin Thomas Neighoff Jr. and wife Janet, Charles Dawson, Joseph W. Dawson and wife Petra, Jeffrey Poland and wife Lanae, George Poland and wife Darlene, and David Poland and wife Amanda; sisters, Brenda E. Beirman-Lambert, and Beverly Rowley and husband Dennis; aunt, Carol Metz; uncle, Leonard Poland many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his dog, Buddy.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Neighoff, Sr.; grandmothers, Annie Haines and Evelyn Poland; grandfathers, Howard Haines and Joseph Poland; uncles, Richard Poland and Harold Poland.Services will be private. Peter S. Carmichael, 58 of Gettysburg, PA passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the York Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Christ Lutheran Church, 30 Chambersburg St. Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, July 26th from 5:00-7:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00-10:30 AM. The Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements. Obituary: Viola Mae Miller
Viola Mae (McGlaughlin) Miller, 89 of Gettysburg, PA passed away at the Gettysburg Hospital on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Born January 27, 1935 in Fairfield, PA she was the daughter of the late Ralph & Leila (Warren) McGlaughlin. Viola was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Jack R. Miller, who died December 06, 2015. She enjoyed knitting, tending to her garden and canning fruits and vegetables. The most important thing in her life was her family and the joy of spending time, caring for and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Viola will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her three children, Francis R. Miller (Karen) of Orrtanna, PA, Donna L. Cooper (Steve) Abbottstown, PA and Wendy A. Schubbe of Gettysburg, six grandchildren, Jason Miller (Jody), Justin Ryder (Kami), Rebecca Shartzer (Tommy), Allyson Mangum (Michael), Madyson Schubbe (Ryan Hanson) and Jackson Hilbert, six great grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Grayson, Leila, Taylor and Emma, a brother, Roger McGlaughlin (Sandy) of York Springs, PA and a sister, Shirley Thomas (Ron) of Gettysburg. In addition to her husband and parents, Viola was predeceased by a sister, Doris Miller and a brother, Edwin McGlaughlin. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg with Pastor Allen Hersh, officiating. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral services on Friday, August 2nd. 23 July 2024- On July 18 and 19, 2024, Gettysburg National Military Park and Gettysburg Foundation staff received a delegation from our Sister Park, the Sekigahara Battlefield, Sekigahara, Japan. Representatives from the Gifu Prefecture government, Sekigahara Battlefield and Japanese tourism associates were in attendance. Since the 2016 World Battlefields Summit Joint Declaration, this most recent visit continued the Sister Park relationship between the Gettysburg and Sekigahara battlefields. At the same time, the Borough of Gettysburg signed a Sister City agreement with the town of Sekigahara, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

Hagerstown man charged in recent double shooting that left one dead
Hagerstown Police have arrested one of two suspects in last Thursday's fatal shooting near downtown Hagerstown, according to court documents. Several road closures scheduled due to repaving project in Gettysburg National Military Park
GETTYSBURG, Pa. — The roads in a portion of the battlefield at Gettysburg National Military Park will be closed next week for a repaving project, the park announced Monday. Beginning on Monday, July 29, park roads on the eastern portion of the battlefield in the Culp’s Hill and Spangler’s Spring areas, Coster Avenue, and Benner Hill will be repaved. This three-month project will address road surfaces that are at the end of their lifespan.
