Quitman High graduate has winning artwork displayed in halls of Congress
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Artwork by a recent graduate of Quitman High School is now on display in the halls of Congress after winning a competition. Laura Arnold submitted her art piece titled “Chicken Bits” to compete in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. Her artwork was selected as the winner from the Fifth District of Louisiana.
Local artist feature: Sarah Dupree
For as long as Sarah Dupree can remember, she has had a pencil in her hand. However, she says she didn’t seriously start making artwork until her senior year of high school. “I had always had a passion for the arts, particularly music but when I lost a friend to cancer at the age of 17, I could no longer pick up my guitar or sit at my piano, so I threw myself into drawing instead. It gave me the solace that music just couldn’t at the time,” remembers Dupree.
