    PORTLAND, Maine — In a tragic incident Tuesday night, a pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in the Morrills Corner neighborhood. The Portland Police Department confirmed the accident, which occurred at 8:13 p.m., in a social media post.

    Victim Identified

    The pedestrian has been identified as 34-year-old Brett Staples of Portland. Staples was reportedly trespassing on the tracks when the incident occurred. The train involved, Amtrak Maine train 687, was traveling from Boston to Brunswick at the time.

    No Injuries Among Passengers

    According to a spokesperson from Amtrak, there were approximately 26 passengers on board the train, but no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew members. The train's crew and passengers remained unharmed as the tragic events unfolded.

    Investigation Underway

    Both the Portland Police and Amtrak Railroad Police are investigating the incident. As of now, no charges have been filed. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances that led to Staples being on the tracks.
