City of Rochester sends out survey to improve city
ROCHESTER, Minn. - The City of Rochester is looking to see how to make it a better town and that's why they're having a National Community Survey where residents can respond. This week they sent out postcards to 4,200 households in Rochester. They'll have 10 categories of questions and some questions include: Safety, Natural Environment and Mobility. On Aug.11-25 it will be available for everyone on the National Community Survey page.
Keeping history alive at the George Stoppel Farmstead
ROCHESTER, Minn. - The History Center of Olmsted County is working to preserve the George Stoppel Farmstead. A lecture was held on July 25 and dove into the immigration of the family behind these historical buildings- the Stoppel brothers- who came from Germany in the 1800's and arrived in Minnesota before it was even a state.
38th annual Cannon Cruisers Country Cruise is Friday, Aug. 2
The 38th annual Cannon Cruisers Country Cruise will be Friday, Aug. 2, with some changes compared to prior years. This year, the lineup for the event will be at Cannon Falls High School beginning at 5 p.m. instead of starting at Artisan Plaza. The cruise starts at 7 p.m. with an end time of 8 p.m. back at CFHS.
Lonsdale Community Days grand marshal announced
Scott Pelava, owner of Lonsdale Auto Works, was chosen as the 2024 grand marshal for Lonsdale Community Days, happening on Saturday, August 10. Pelava opened Lonsdale Auto Works in 2005, providing service to the Lonsdale area for 19 years so far. He has been an active member of the Lonsdale Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC), serving two terms on the board of directors for them. Chamber Executive Director Shanna Gutzke-Kopp says that he has been “constructively working with staff, committee members & business leaders.”
Austin Public Schools unveils cell phone policy for 2024-25 school year
(ABC 6 News) — Austin Public Schools has unveiled its cell phone policy for the 2024-25 school year. For grades K-8, cell phones are required to be turned off and put away in backpacks or lockers. If students have a medical or other emergency reason for accessing their phone during the day, they should discuss an exception with an administrator.
