RAEFORD, N.C. (WNCN) — A man wanted in New York in connection to a homicide was arrested Thursday in Hoke County, the sheriff’s office said.

According to the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office, Stepfane Gilliam had “outstanding warrants for homicide out of New York.” Through the course of the investigation, law enforcement uncovered that Gilliam was staying in Raeford.

After Gilliam’s location was verified, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Hoke County Special Operations arrested him in the 400 block of Ben Austin Road in Raeford on Thursday.

The sheriff’s office said he was taken into custody without incident and turned over to the U.S. Marshals and “representatives from the state of New York.”
