Rent and new housing in Sussex county nj

its needed sadly. unfortunately those who really need it won't be able to get one because rent requirements are crazy these days. Forget it if your credit is just ok. years ago I lived in a 1 bedroom in highpoint country club. 1 bedroom was 550$ a month. Now I see the same units for over 1,000$. I get inflation and costs go up. But seriously it's to much. plus what it takes to get in. application fees $50 to $150 just for the one u view. then credit score of 600 or more in most cases. Realtor fee that are all over place in terms of price. Then requirement of household making 4x up to 6x of monthly rent! crazy. plus what used to be normal fee of 1st and last month rent or half. I looked at a 2 bedroom for $1,800. with all fees and costs just to move in I needed $5,500 give or take. one was almost 7K to move in! I'd rather buy a home or use it towards down payment. my point Is it to costly for a average person or couple to move. then if they can secure the apartment most of there money goes to rent and bills. we wonder why folks can't get ahead. I also have a great job as does my fiance. it's still ridiculously expensive. something needs to be done to tame cost. atleast to just be able to get in. I've known great people lose out on places because credit was bad. I was one. Then landlord rents to someone with great credit. What happened?? well there great credit didn't show they were slobs and didn't end up paying rent. I ended up getting place after it got fixed from them trashing it. point is just because someone has great credit doesn't mean shi*! Things need to change or we are going to have a major homeless problem worse than it is now. cause we live in sussex county it's not shown all over news or online papers. it's growing and there is only 1 homeless shelters in Newton really. landlords need protection I get that. But there is a place that compromise can be made. just have to have the conversations like every other big issue in our state and country. sorry such a long read.
